More About Stretching...

Leading a sedentary lifestyle can lead to a loss of flexibility and range of motion, with the average person losing 1% of their flexibility every year after age 30. Regular stretching can help alleviate everyday aches and pains, as well as soreness from exercise. By isolating individual muscles and breaking up stiffness, stretching can help improve posture and movement, slow down the aging process, and promote better circulation.

Facilitated stretching is a technique that involves working with an experienced practitioner to achieve a more ideal resting muscle tone, relieve stiffness and soreness, and unlock greater physical ability. It's not just a warm-up or cool-down exercise; facilitated stretching can help athletes reach optimum functional flexibility, which can lead to an open and instinctual system that requires less thought and faster reaction time.

Facilitated stretching can also improve spatial awareness, balance, and sensory awareness of your surroundings. By learning your body's limitations and better assessing the state of your muscles and injuries, you can develop greater control and confidence, ultimately leading to peak performance. When flexibility training is done properly and the integrity of connective tissue and muscle is maintained, you can increase your active range of motion, execute movements without excessive tension, and decrease resistance in extended muscles.

It's important to work with a trained practitioner to ensure proper technique and safety when engaging in facilitated stretching. With consistent practice, facilitated stretching can lead to a more flexible, mobile, and pain-free body, improving overall well-being and quality of life.

A Little About Me...

My name is Sharifa, I am a Certified Personal Trainer & Stretch Professional. Mom of two boys, ages 16 and 12. They give me a run for my money!! While in my twenties (and having babies) I worked in physical therapy and had ambitions to work in the field. Life, marriage & kids happened and my path deviated a little bit but I always loved everything personal training/physical therapy related. I became certified in Personal Training & Nutrition in 2017 then went on to use my PT knowledge and am certified in Assisted Stretching. I worked in a big box Stretch Facility for close to a year, stretching & training new certified employees before finally going out on my own.  I love what I do and I wouldn't change a thing!
